We knew it was coming which is why we made the effort to go out yesterday....
I had been offered lunch out at The Red Lion at East Haddon today, but frankly walking to the car in the pouring rain put the tin hat on the idea and we stayed in snuggling.
The next day was a bit damp but we definitely needed to get out so we went a National Trust property just south of Daventry called Canons Ashby.
Here
This house has benefitted by its owners being broke when he inherited it in the mid victorian era, he spent years paying off debts and didn't have funds for "Improvements" of the type I would consider horrid.
The rear of the house. |
We timed it perfectly to appreciate the tulips. |
I do love purple tulips. |
This was in the kitchen garden where you can pick up produce of the day, nothing there today. |
The weather had improved marginally on our return to the boat but instead of moving out of Braunston and going down the South Oxford, we decided as it was cold to wait and move early in the morning.
Our mooring. |
It was freezing and here is David putting on his Noddy Hat, needs must. |
Braunston was very busy with moored Hire Boats, in fact if you look carefully you can see one in the photo below, he was reversing and "winding" very competently by a Dutchman.
The iconic Braunston Bridges. |
Did I say it was freezing? Well I was mostly inside packing as we arrived at Wigrams Turn Marina at about 10am.
We are home for a week or so with a family beach holiday to attend. So I packed our shorts and flip flops in to be hopeful. Now at home I am still looking for my holdall of shoes which have gone missing ever since David took custody of them to put in the car..... I feel they are on the hard standing in their bag still in the main car park. So on the way to Devon we maybe shoe shopping!
See you all next week.
